- Dr. Lawrence A. Nixon was a physician & voting rights advocate. Due to his advocacy work along with the help of the NAACP, the Supreme Court ruled in 1927 that political parties must allow blacks to vote. An elementary school in northeast El Paso is named in his honor.
- Nolan Richardson is the only Coach in the nation who has won a Junior College, NIT & NCAA Championship. He attended Bowie High School & UTEP. There is a Middle School, Recreation Center and Street named in his honor.
- Robbin E.L. Washington was one of the founding members of the Black El Paso Democrats. An elementary school in east El Paso is named after him.
- Chester Jordan was a community activist, insurance & investment broker. In east El Paso, there is an elementary school and a park named after Mr. Jordan.
- Helen Lorraine Edwards Ball was a dedicated Teacher in Socorro ISD for many years, who encouraged her students to succeed and excel in all their endeavors. The Elementary school named in her honor is located in east El Paso.
- Jethro Hills was the first African American City Councilman. The Jethro Hills Municipal Complex named in his honor is located in Northeast El Paso.
- C.S. “Dusty” Rhodes was the first African American City Councilman to represent the Eastside District.
- Donald L. Williams is the first African American to be appointed as an associate municipal court Judge.
- John Chatman is the first African American to be elected as a municipal court Judge.
- Charles Taylor is the first African American elected Trustee on the El Paso ISD Board of Directors.
- John Douglas was the first African American, in 1977, to earn the rank of Lieutenant on the El Paso Police force.
- The all Black starting line-up for Texas Western (UTEP) won the 1966 NCAA Championship. “Glory Road” is the movie developed for their feat. UTEP is the only Division One College in Texas to win the NCAA Championship. Two of the starting team members – Willie Cager and Bobby Joe Hill remained in El Paso and contributed greatly to the community.
- Estine Davis is the owner of Estine’s Barber Shop and sponsor of the Miss Black El Paso Pageant. She also represents the Black community with numerous floats in the Thanksgiving parades.
- Mary Webb established the first black recreation center in El Paso. The Mary Webb park named in her honor is located at 3401 E. Missouri.
